Basildon Emergency Night Shelter (BENS) 

We are recruiting for the position of the BENS project assistant. The aim of the post will be to provide support to the Shelter project coordinator by helping to ensure the smooth running of the shelters. As this is the projects third year, you will inherit established venues with a history of delivery, a collection of procedural documents based on good practice, and a supportive project steering group.

This winter we will be working with seven venues to provide shelter provision in the Basildon area. The scheme will run from 11 November 2018 until 31 March 2019.

Coordinator Assistant Role

We expect you to be a visible at all shelters for mornings and some evenings during the first week and regularly thereafter according to venue needs.

In delivering this the provision, you will need to build upon our strong relationships with the venues particularly with night shift Team Leaders.

Night Shift Leader/Support Worker(s) – Job Vacancy (5 nights per week (waking night).

The Basildon Emergency Night Shelter project requires a night shift/support worker to join our team of dedicated  volunteer staff to support our Winter Night Shelter programme.

The role will include weekend working. The project may include working at a number of different locations Basildon including The United Reformed Church, Trinity Methodist Church, Kingswood Baptist Church, Swan Mead Christian Fellowship, Salvation Army.

Whilst delivery times may be subject to change, you will be required to work core hours from 11pm-7am. We anticipate a pool of successful applicants ensuring that the duties are shared. If interested in providing limited coverage can you please indicate your shift availability.

Please note that the positions are temporary and will commence on 11 November until 31 March 2019. All appointments will be subject to a DBS check.

Remuneration will be paid at £10 per hour.

This post is located within the Community Involvement Team, part of Housing and Community Services and is based at the Basildon Centre.

The post requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate clearly with people across a range of levels, excellent written, communication and presentation skills and ability work on your own initiative. Experience of partnership working would be an advantage. Some evening and weekend working may be required.
