Localism Act

 The Localism Act 2011 received its Royal Assent on Tuesday, so is now law. NAVCA's Chief Executive, Kevin Curley gives a response on CLG's news page. There is still a lot of uncertainty about how the measures will work and a lot of work needed to make the measures in the Bill help local communities. As well as the full text of the Act, you can view a plain English guide to the Act on the site.

Skills Funding is making £5 and £10 million of 
grants available to Third Sector Training Organisations to enhance the work they currently do with the young adults NEET

Free Training avaiable is targeted at upskilling community groups by offering training in governance, marketing and presentation skills. Other topics may be added by request. The groups must have eligible people in them to qualify for FREE training  – be over 19, unemployed (or economically inactive), below level 2 qualified and not been in education for past 2 years. There are a few exceptions

Office of Civl Society - Response to Supporting a Stronger Civil Society.

To see our response to the Government Consultation on the role of Infrastructure Services, Supporting a Stronger Civil Society, please click on the link above.  The Government is planning to publish a response to the consultation in the Spring. We will publish this as soon as it is available.

Work Programme concerns

VE has reported that some volunteer centres have been asked by Work Programme providers to work for no payment. Employment minister Chris Grayling has confirmed that the programme providers should always pay charities for their services. Patrick Butler's Guardian cuts blog covered this story.
